RESPONSIBILITIES Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc.
(DLS) is Hawaiis largest locally owned and operated medical testing laboratory.

SCHEDULE Regular Call-In Position Must be available Monday through Friday from as early as 7:
00 am to as late as 6:
00pm.
Saturday, on an as needed basis, from as early as 7:
00am to as late as 4:
00pm.
Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.
JOB SUMMARY Provides bench coverage and may train others in areas including, but not limited to Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, and/or Microbiology during clinical rotations of medical lab technician and medical technology students, and/or other approved trainees.
Assists with phlebotomy training, laboratory information system training, and outreach efforts as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Performs the duties of a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician.
Provides bench coverage during critical operation needs and/or trains others in technical areas during clinical rotations.
(60%) 1.
Performs tests and calculations, documents and reports results following prescribed instructions and predetermined criteria.
2.
Adheres to established QC policies and procedures, including but not limited to documentation, corrective actions, and proficiency testing.
3.
Recognizes abnormal or unusual pre-analytical, analytical, post-analytical problems and follows established corrective action policies.
4.
Independently operates, calibrates, conducts performance checks, and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment, following written criteria.
5.
Maintains procedures, records, and logs following established procedures.
6.
Identifies and analyzes problems; makes decisions and takes appropriate action(s).
3.
Plans, participates, and coordinates outreach initiatives and assists with planning and coordinating clinical rotations.
(15%) 1.
Plans, participates, coordinates and creates educational outreach content for students, teachers and educational institutions through technical career fairs, presentations, workshops and facility tours.
2.
Provides career counseling and technical advice during clinical rotations, internship, externship, and apprenticeship programs; and for current employees looking to obtain their phlebotomy certifications or MLT/MT certifications and licensing.
3.
Plans and coordinates clinical rotations for internships, externships, apprenticeships and clinical rotations.
4.
Creates, Supports and participates in training and development programs and initiatives.
(15% ) 1.
Develops training materials and curriculum for a variety of training opportunities for outreach, rotation programs and employees.
2.
Conducts training & assessments within Diagnostic Laboratory Services, including but not limited to, Phlebotomy, Laboratory Information System and Train the Trainer.
3.
Gathers data and generates reports on attendance, evaluations, and other data relevant to training and education programs.
4.
Registration of employees in training programs.
Processing forms for registration and payment.
5.
Creates courses, programs, classes, and develops training aids for Enterprise Learning Management (ELM).
6.
Provides additional support in pre-analytic processes and training for external clients.
5.
Supports technical and clinical areas to develop and maintain various procedures and continual educational material.
(10%) 1.
Developing and maintaining access to online resources.
2.
Creates Educational materials and visual aids utilizing various technologies and training tools.
3.
Provides guidance in pre-analytical processes in standard operating procedures.
6.
May perform specimen collection by venipuncture 7.

May require frequent bending, standing and sitting for extended periods of time.

May require repetitive manual motion such as, but not limited to, pipetting, capping and uncapping specimens.

May require keying intermittently for four (4) hours a day.

May require frequent walking, climbing of stairs and/or driving to various locations.

May require occasional lifting and carrying of supplies weighing up to thirty five (35) pounds.

May require occasional ground and air travel.
Typical Working Conditions:

Work environment includes conditions common to a hospital/laboratory environment, including working directly with potentially hazardous chemicals and/or patients with communicable diseases.
Potential for inadvertent skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials possible.

Works in an indoor, air-conditioned area.
QUALIFICATIONS Education:
_Required:
_
Bachelors degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited college or university.
OR
Associate's degree in laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
_Required:
_
At least two (2) years as a medical technologist or four (4) years as a medical laboratory technician.

At least one (1) year of experience training students/employees in a laboratory.

Working knowledge of a laboratory information system (LIS).

Experience training students/employees in a clinical laboratory
Experience with Antrim.
Certification:
_Required:

Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health State Laboratories Division.
Licensure:
Required:

Hawaii State license as Technologist or Technician.
Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form.

Excellent customer service skills.

Intermediate personal computer skills, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and routine database activity.

Qualifications:

Special Requirement:
If position requires bench coverage in the Blood Bank Department, certification and Hawaii State license as a Technologist is required.
