## The Role
Reporting to a Division Manager, you will take ownership of a high-energy territory ripe with potential and growth opportunities. Your mission will be to help drive growth in our service driven, sawing, breaking, & demolition division. Your key customers will be commercial contractors, subcontractors and others.
The position is mostly about territory management, with a heavy cold calling element. At the same time, you can help us move toward a new approach in selling. Traditionally we have taken a _contractor_ approach, calling on job sites and selling to superintendents. You'll continue to do that, but we also want to position ourselves as a _service provider_, and we'll look to you to approach high-level decision makers in the corporate offices. As you may know, the actual procurement will be done at the job sites, but by taking a top-down approach, you'll influence the home office to drive the decisions made at the job sites.
As you build your book of business you will split your time between account management and driving new business. The roll involves all you would expect in an outside sales role, including prospecting, cold calling, quoting, developing and making presentations, tracking and reporting activities and results, and more.
Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.
## Why Penhall
Momentum in a growth environment -- we're growing and you'll be on the leading edge of growth in Hawaii. We're already a market leader, so you'll have a leg up every time you approach a potential customer.
Career development -- our people are a key part of our competitive edge, and we are proactive about helping them gain new skills. We strive to build a company where promotion comes from within, and we're hiring with an eye to the future. Our goal is to bring on board a professional who can excel in this role and then pursue promotion into divisional or regional management. In fact, several members of your management team started out as laborers and have worked their way into leadership. Advancement opportunities may require relocation.
Core values plus innovation -- while other construction companies cling to outdated, old-school approaches, we are transforming Penhall to continue being a leader as the world and the economy evolve. Our core values, however, remain the same: we will continue to support the success of our clients and their projects with meticulously maintained equipment, operated by professionals dedicated to upholding the safest working environment.
High performance company -- at Penhall we've established a reputation for quality, safety and exceeding customer expectations. Some examples:
You may remember Carmageddon, the July 2011 weekend closure of Interstate 405, in Los Angeles, for repairs. Penhall played a role in that, demolishing a portion of the Mulholland Bridge. The 405 freeway is one of the busiest freeways in the world, but through careful planning and execution, we beat our 53-hour deadline by 16 hours!
Our steadfast commitment to quality and safety has earned our company an exceptional reputation. In fact, we have been highly ranked among the top 100 U.S. Specialty Contractors, and in the top ten in demolition/wrecking, by Engineering News-Record Magazine.
In 2007 we mastered an unusual challenge at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee that involved developing customized equipment to grind concrete pavement on a 28 slope on the banked racetrack. Penhall helped Bristol maintain its reputation as the Fastest Half Mile track on the NASCAR circuit.
Great environment -- we enjoy a close-knit family feeling and a relatively flat organizational structure throughout Penhall. With 35 locations in the U.S. and Canada, if you have to move for whatever reason, there is a good chance you can transfer and stay with Penhall in your new home. These are just some of the reasons we have a large number of long-tenured employees.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and incentive plan (commission plus modifiers), we offer comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental and life insurance; a 401(k) plan (available after meeting plan requirements); holiday and vacation pay; and more. We'll also provide a company car, smartphone, laptop and relevant expenses.

## Keys to Success
If you're the person we're looking for, you'll want to be out in the field as much as possible. You'll need to be flexible out there, as you may meet with a vice president in a customer's corporate office in the morning, and then visit a job site in the afternoon. You should have an eye for the details, but also a sense of the bigger picture and how the details fit into it. You'll need to be able to achieve goals independently and also contribute effectively to teams. More than anything, you should have a competitive spirit and a strong drive to deliver results.
We mentioned Carmageddon in the _Why Penhall_ tab, and we're proud of that accomplishment, but we're not looking for you to focus on going after BIG contracts. The real value is in concrete cutting, core drilling, wall sawing and other services that are repeatable day after day. Your goal will be to establish relationships with construction companies so that if they have 300 feet of concrete to cut, they immediately think of Penhall. If the big contract opportunities come up, of course, you'll have the option to pursue them.
We are undergoing a paradigm shift at Penhall, and we see this role as part of our new future. Changes are under way, and you'll need to be adaptable. For a while, anyway, you'll have a foot in both worlds -- the somewhat outdated systems on the one hand and, on the other, newly implemented systems and processes like Salesforce. You'll need to be patient, resourceful and comfortable with a degree of ambiguity as we evolve.
